Where we began

Flapjackery began its journey in 2015, founded in Tavistock by two friends with a passion for baking: Carol Myott and Sally Jenkin. What started as a humble home kitchen operation has blossomed into a thriving business. Today, Flapjackery boasts 16 shops across the UK, a busy fleet of vans, a vibrant presence at all the main shows and events, a bustling online shop, and a dedicated fan base that stretches from the South West coast to homes across the entire UK.

You can't help but notice us these days, especially with our recent Flapjackery branding refresh! In celebration of our first decade, we've given our look a little update, but we haven't strayed far. You'll still see our favourite yellow and orange shining bright!

Sally and Carol have masterfully guided the Flapjackery brand from local markets and muddy showgrounds to prominent high streets across the South West and beyond. Most recently, Flapjackery has opened in new locations, including a unit in Bristol’s bustling St Nicholas Market, our first Cotswolds shop in Stow-on-the-Wold, and another welcoming shop in Chichester.

From day one, Flapjackery has remained steadfast to its core founding principles: proper ingredients, bold flavours, and a big-hearted approach to baking. Every single flapjack is still lovingly made by hand in Tavistock, using only the finest British oats, rich Westcountry butter, and golden syrup.

"Our original recipe came from my mum," explains Carol. "It was oats, butter, brown sugar, and syrup. Simple, but perfect. That’s still the base of everything we make, whether it’s our classic Traditional flapjack or a more adventurous flavour like Salted Caramel Brownie or Apple and Blackcurrant."

The business, which now employs 75 staff and uses the incredible weight of an adult giraffe in oats every single week, has scooped over 30 Taste of the West Gold Awards. This dedication to quality has cultivated a loyal customer following who return time and again for their flapjack fix. Every week, Flapjackery bakes 25 flavours, from comforting family favourites to exciting limited edition seasonal treats and flapjacks to mark the changing seasons, with an ever-growing online and retail presence.

While our flapjacks have evolved to include more inventive sweet treats, and even flapjacks for dogs, the unwavering ethos remains the same: generous chunks, handmade with care, using British oats and high-quality ingredients. As the business has expanded, Sally has taken a step back, and Carol now leads the dedicated Flapjackery team with incredible energy and vision.

In 2022, Flapjackery was honoured with a royal visit from The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh during a showcase of local producers at Exeter Cathedral. This was a truly special moment, marking just how far the business had come in under a decade. And the recognition doesn't stop there  a host of famous personalities are self-proclaimed Flapjackery fans, from Joe Wicks to Dermot O’Leary, and Emma Thompson to Brian May!

Flapjackery continues to innovate, bake, and delight. While our reach is expanding across the UK, our heart remains firmly in the West Country, where every flapjack is still lovingly made by hand with the utmost care.

Flapjackery’s tenth anniversary also highlights our long-standing commitment to community. Each of our shops proudly supports a local charity, embodying our belief in giving back. From the vital work of the RNLI and local food banks to the dedicated Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, giving back is truly baked into the Flapjackery business.

"The response to our flapjacks has been incredible from the start," says Carol. "We were two women with some baking trays and a dream. A lot of hard work, a few late-night baking marathons, and a tonne and tonnes of oats later, here we are. We’re so grateful to everyone who’s supported us."

With more shops planned, exciting new flavours on the horizon, and the return of the Dartmoor Marathon, made possible by Flapjackery, the next chapter looks just as exciting as the first. As the saying goes – once bitten, forever smitten!
